Robert Haas Joins Allentown Economic Development Corporation as Financial Controller

New hire brings decades of experience and a dedication to quality customer service.

ALLENTOWN, Pa. —October 28, 2020 — Allentown Economic Development Corporation is pleased to announce the addition of Robert Haas as Financial Controller effective September 28, 2020. Haas brings 35 years of accounting and controller experience to the AEDC team.

Haas joins AEDC after serving 18 years as Chief Financial Officer at The Swain School in Allentown. Prior to his role at The Swain School, Haas spent a total of 17 years at Good Shepherd Rehabilitation Hospital in Allentown as the Reimbursement Specialist and then as Controller.  Haas majored in accounting while at Moravian College and has a Master of Business Administration from Wilkes College in Wilkes-Barre.

“We are very excited to welcome Robert Haas to the AEDC team,” says Executive Director Scott Unger.  “Bob’s prior experience makes him a unique hire and an ideal fit for the position here. He wore several hats in his previous roles, so he has the competency to manage AEDC’s fiscal operations, which can be complex. Bob will be overseeing financials for the incubation program, the loan programs, the property development and management component and general AEDC processes. I’m confident he’s going to bring knowledge and value to an already-strong department.  Our former controller, Ken Vance, has done an excellent job working with Bob and setting everyone up for a smooth transition.”

Former controller, Ken Vance is set to retire from the organization after serving nearly 8 years in the position. He will remain an active employee for an undetermined amount of time to assist with the onboarding to familiarize Haas with AEDC’s procedures.

Haas is looking forward to getting involved with the community and being an asset to the AEDC team. “Our organization is helpful to the community and the city, and that’s something I’m happy to play a part in,” says Haas. “I view my position as supporting the people I work with. I’m part of an internal infrastructure. AEDC runs an incubation program for entrepreneurs, finances businesses in need, and provides property management services. So customer service is extremely important. While I may not directly interact with our organization’s customers every day, my colleagues here do. So I want to help make it easier for them to do their jobs by doing a good job at my own. I want to provide them with the information they need to succeed. That’s what being part of a team is all about to me.”
